**PLEASE NOTE: THE SCOOP SHOPPE HAS REOPENED AS FRISBIE’S DAIRY BARN. THIS POST REFLECTS OUR EXPERIENCE AT THE SCOOP SHOPPE, AND AS SUCH MAY NOT BE UP TO DATE. WE HOPE TO VISIT FRISBIE’S SOON!**
We love ice cream in this house. And we love going out to eat ice cream. It’s especially fun when we try a new (to us) place and discover a new family favorite. You don’t hear about too many new ice cream shops opening up though. Most of the fan favorites in this area have been around for a while and have an established reputation. So when we heard that there was a new player in the area, we had to scope it out.
While Maple Hill Farms has been around for quite some time, they have decided to enter the world of ice cream with the opening of The Scoop Shoppe. Having only opened in June, they have build up quite the fan-base. When I asked my readers to share their favorite ice cream shop, this one came up a few times.
The Scoop Shoppe is located in Bloomfield, basically across the street from Auerfarm. It’s located right off of Rte 185 (on Burr Road) and is just down the road from the West Hartford border. We’re pretty familiar with Bloomfield so we found things pretty easy.
You’ll spot signs for The Scoop Shoppe right on the road.
Right when you drive in, you’ll see the Scoop Shoppe on your right. There is parking in front, as well as at the bottom of the small hill too.
The Scoop Shoppe serves Bliss Ice Cream. If you are not familiar with what this means, Bliss Ice Cream comes from a restaurant and ice cream stand in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Since I have family in that area, I am spoiled to know just it means when ice cream comes from Bliss. It’s phenomenal ice cream. Probably one of the best ice creams around. I was actually really excited when I saw that The Scoop Shoppe was scooping Bliss Ice Cream.
They have their hours on the door. They are open 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., every day except Tuesday.
Inside The Scoop Shoppe, you’ll find a counter to order your ice cream to the left. And on the left you’ll find a few tables.
At the counter, you’ll find all the information you need before you order. They serve up cups and cones, including waffle cones. They have sundaes on the menu. They also sell milkshakes.
The Scoop Shoppe’s flavors include the standard chocolate and vanilla, and a few funky flavors like Moose Tracks, Coconut Almond Bar and Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel. There is a frozen yogurt option and a sorbet.
The sundaes include your favorite ice cream, 1-2 toppings, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry.
As for sizes, they have small, medium and large. The cups give you a good idea of size but small is one scoop, medium is two, and large is three. If you order two or more scoops, you can mix up flavors.
It was tough making a decision!!
So what did we get? Well, this kid got his standard chocolate. And I decided to mix it up with black raspberry with chocolate sprinkles. And as I expected, it was delicious ice cream.
Since it was a beautiful day out, we decided to head outside for a little while to check out their outdoor seating area while he finished his bowl of ice cream. They have four picnic tables under the shade and some lawn games.
He had fun playing corn-hole and bowling. This was a great way to spend the end of our day – ice cream and fun games!
So what’s our overall consensus? Well, he licked the bowl clean, so that says something…
The Scoop Shoppe is definitely a welcome addition to the ice cream offerings here in Connecticut! I love that they are serving Bliss Ice Cream – it was a great choice! With summer half over, there is still time to enjoy lots of ice cream. Make it a point to visit this new shop if you can!
