We are over thirty days into the partial government shutdown and many families are definitely feeling it. There are a number of businesses, including museums, zoos, children’s museums and restaurants that are here for you and are hoping to make things a little easier by offering some great deals, including free admission and other price breaks. Here’s a rundown of some of the offers that are out there.
Most of these discounts will be offered through the duration of the shutdown (unless otherwise noted).
Proper government ID is required to receive any discount.
Amelia Park Children’s Museum in Westfield, Massachusetts– Free admission to all federal employees and their children.
Boston Children’s Museum– Free admission to furloughed government employees and their families (up to 3).
Bruce Museum in Greenwich – Free admission to furloughed government employees.
Connecticut Historical Society Museum & Library – Free admission to federal employees plus one additional guest.
Connecticut Science Center– Free general admission to all federal employees, and their accompanying family members, impacted by the furlough or working without pay. Up to four people.
Harlem Globetrotters at the XL Center – Furloughed government employees can receive two tickets to the February 16, 2019 show. Tickets can be acquired at the XL Center box office.
Mystic Aquarium – Complimentary general admission to government employees, Monday through Friday.
Mystic Seaport – Free admission to all furloughed (or working without pay) federal workers and one additional guest.
New Britain Museum of American Art – Free admission for all federal workers and one guest.
Roger Williams Zoo – Free admission to furloughed government employees and up to four family members.
Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ in Windsor – Furloughed federal employees are invited to enjoy a sandwich, side and fountain drink for free.
Harry’s Pizza in West Hartford – Offering furloughed federal employees and their families 50% off their food bill on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop in West Hartford– Buy 1 Get 1 entrée at all restaurants, from January 23-27, 2019.
