** This Post was written regarding the 2016 Vehicle Day at the Enfield Public Library. This is an annual event held in June.
It seems that touch a truck events are happening everywhere these days. They are such a great idea for little kids to experience trucks and other vehicles close up. I can’t tell you how many times my child sees a firetruck and points at it excitedly. And when they redid our road this last spring, we would have to go check out the trucks rolling by every day. There is something about trucks and vehicles that are just so fascinating to toddlers! What child doesn’t love a big rig or construction equipment or a firetruck?
This Father’s Day weekend, the Enfield Public Library hosted Vehicle Day! This was our second year attending the library’s vehicle today. It is such a great time. The library does a great job with this event, they have a variety of vehicles parked across the back lot of the library. From garbage trucks and big rigs to the Magic Carpet bus and firetrucks to sports cars and steam rollers, they have a truck for everyone!
Vehicle Day takes place in the large parking lot of the library, towards the back. It is in the open sun so plan for sunblock, hats and any other sun protection you and your kids may need.
Also, because they use the parking lot for the trucks, you will either have to find parking in the side lot (which fills up fast), or park across the fields at the elementary school. It’s a little walk through the fields but not bad at all, even with a stroller.
As you can see, there are so many trucks to check out and it’s not usually super busy so everyone gets a chance to climb inside and check things out. Most of the owners of the trucks are there and are happy to let you sit inside, peek around and ask questions.
They have sporty cars. You can sit inside them! Nothing like pretending to take a spin in one of these fancy cars!
There are a ton of construction trucks! This year they had a digger, a steam roller and plows.
Of course, there are big tractor trailer trucks at Vehicle Day! It can be tricky climbing on board one of these big boys, but once you get in, you’ll be amazed at all the buttons. There is a lot involved in driving a tractor trailer!
Papa, pull the horn!
The Magic Carpet bus also made a special appearance and you were able to climb onboard to check it out. It’s pretty nice inside!
And the main attraction for every little (and big kid)– the firetruck!!
The firetruck also was giving rides in the fire truck’s tower ladder. There was a line but it was worth the wait!
We all had to take a ride, all the dads and my boy… and then all the moms and my boy. He got two rides! What a lucky kid! Way up high with daddy, grampie and papa!
And then way up high with momma, nana and grammie!
What a view from above!
There’s also an ice cream truck, that hands out FREE ice cream! What a great way to end the day!
We really enjoyed our frozen pop!
Vehicle Day is FREE. They only ask that you bring a non-perishable food donation if you want to ride in the fire truck’s tower ladder (and who doesn’t?).
Vehicle Day is a really fun time, and if your kids like trucks, it is a must do. Make sure to watch your calendars for next year’s event!
After the event is over, make sure to allow time to play in the awesome playground here at the Enfield Library! Check out our blog post from March 2016 for more information regarding the playground.
